Procedural clouds based at 4,000 m around the Matterhorn in 3D Weather Lab

Experimental

ArcGIS - Volumetric clouds and fog

3D Weather Lab

Shape procedural clouds and valley fog around the Matterhorn, then change the light, wind and time of day.

ArcGISWebGLGLSLTypeScript

A JavaScript and WebGL atmosphere lab with three procedural cloud layers and valley fog. An ArcGIS RenderNode integrates the volumes into the 3D scene; shaders sample density, lighting and transparency along each viewing ray.

The renderer uses the experimental RenderNode API and can be demanding on the GPU. These are visual atmospheres to explore, not weather forecasts or a meteorological simulation. Appearance and smoothness vary by device.

  • Three adjustable cloud layers and valley fog
  • Weather presets, wind, lighting and time playback
  • Ray-marched volumes composed with ArcGIS scene depth
