Elevation-colored terrain around the Matterhorn with contour lines and summit labels in Elevation Atlas

ArcGIS - Terrain colored by elevation

Elevation Atlas

Explore Earth's terrain in 3D with elevation colors, hill shading and contour lines computed in your browser.

ArcGISTypeScriptWebGLTerrain

Travel from the globe to mountain peaks, search for a place and see how color reveals the landscape. Choose a palette, adjust its elevation range or fit it to the terrain in view. Explore the colored surface or its triangular structure, then adjust hill shading and contour lines. Share your view or save it as an image.

ArcGIS provides the 3D terrain and navigation. The TypeScript app turns elevation tiles into colors, hill shading and contour lines directly in the browser, with calculations shared across Web Workers. A WebGL RenderNode draws the native terrain mesh edges. Regional summit, pass and settlement names come from OpenStreetMap data loaded from GeoParquet files. Click a label to fly to that place in the 3D scene.
